Painting: ‘Web’

The inspiration for this painting came on a day when I was watching the Gulf War unfold on the TV news and as I watched the horrors spewing from the TV, my eye kept being drawn to a beautiful reflection coming through a glass-brick wall in the living room, and creating what looked like a fantastic white spider web on the wall. I kept switching between wall and TV, thinking about how in some parts of the world there was horror, blood and death. In contrast in Sydney there was beautiful sunny light, reflections and everything that is good about nature.

I wanted to represent that beautiful pattern in the earthy, bloody colours of war and so I created WEB.
