Painting: ‘Balance’
Painted for my sister Tere in November 2002
For Tere: This painting represents the broad elements of your life, and how you work to keep them balanced.
On the right side is a dark circle with two u-shapes. This symbolises a meeting of two adults and in this painting represents the part of your life where your relationships with your partners takes place. The brown squiggly lines actually symbolise intestines and in this picture represent both where the important things happen as well as where you have to face the more unpleasant realities.
The ‘meeting’ position around a table shows how you actively work to keep this part of your life in harmony with the part on the left, the flows from both almost intertwining.
The part of the painting on the top left symbolises the part of your life where your light shines brightest. The four prongs of the sun combining to represents not just your two children but the happy memories of your past, with the positive aspirations of your future. Together, they make your sun shine brightly.
The part of the painting that lies between the two elements above, symbolises your journey through life, working to bring both sides of your life together in a harmonious way. The little obstacles and less obvious but still potentially unpleasant ‘guts’ littering your path, represent a journey that is not always easy.
On a very positive finishing note, your unbroken steps throughout your journey represent your ability to deal with it all and keep working to bring your life into a happy balance.
This painting should serve to remind you that when you are feeling like life is hard and the going is always tough, it is you that has made it this far and you have many things that make you happy and proud. And it is you that has made this journey and you are making it all work out. Nothing comes easy in life, which is why it is all the more satisfying for the effort that you put in.
